New York: A painting by the late pop artist Roy Lichtenstein that disappeared 42 years ago has turned up in a New York warehouse and is in legal limbo, the Guardian reports. Lichtenstein’s Electric Cord, which depicts a coiled cord in black and white, disappeared in 1970 when the art collector Leo Castelli sent it out for cleaning. The painting reemerged last week when the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation was contacted by James Goodman, who was seeking assistance authenticating the artwork – which had been sitting at a storage facility on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. According to court records Barbara Castelli, wife of the late Leo Castelli, is now ‘deeply concerned’ the painting may disappear again. On Tuesday a judge signed an order barring the Manhattan warehouse from selling or moving the painting until a hearing next week.
